My greatest love is Japanese weaponry. The utmost care is taken when carrying out any work. We are merely custodians of these beautiful artifacts and our duty is to preserve for the next generation. Polishing is carried out using Japanese methods. I only do Sashikomi as I feel Hadori polish hides important detail in the blade although it does display the skill of the polisher. I'd rather demonstrate the skill of the original smith. Prices depend on the condition of the sword. Prices are dependant on the condition of the sword and start at £10 per inch.
Armor piercing tanto Mino province, signed Kane Katsu C1480-1520
Koto Mino O-tanto
Habaki I prefer to make when a sword is being polished as some of the harder materials (like Mokume) can leave faint marks in the polish. Prices start at £70
Shirasaya. Made from traditional Japanese Ho wood, don't accept saya made from anything else. Prices start at £200. Ebony, bone and horn sepa, inserts, etc. add to the price. Lacquer work. This is a long and tedious process and it can take up to 6 months to lacquer a saya depending on the complexity. |
